LED conversion is highly reliable and visually striking. Date finished:5/6/21 Initial assessment: - One broken speaker terminal - Intermittent audio output in both channels - Failed front panel display bulbs - 4 relays (two output and two power supply) all need to be diagnosed for cleaning or replacement Service notes: - Fully dismantled unit and replaced all four speaker terminals - Closely checked soldering joints on all boards with high powered magnifying glass and re-soldered 10-15 suspect joints - Thoroughly inspected all boards for burning or corrosion: good - Upgraded all electrolytic caps on both Amp boards to Nichicon gold in audio path and high temp Nichicon low esr for third order filtration - Upgraded all electrolytic caps on P. S/Protection board to slightly higher capacitance value Nichicon low esr, for improved ripple filtration - Upgraded all electrolytic caps on meter/VAS board to low esr Nichicon - Replaced two speaker protection relays with high amp contact Omron MY2 relays and cleaned contacts of P. S relays - Replaced all front panel display bulbs with soft blue LEDs - Cleaned and exercised all controls and trimmers - Calibrated meters, amp dc offset, and bias - Full cosmetic detailing of front and back of unit. Final bench test: ran unit 3hr.

From the owner's manual - Pioneer Spec-2 Stereo Power Amplifier (1976-80) Description: The Spec-2 is a 250W rack mount stereo power amplifier featuring a current limiter circuit, peak level meters, protection circuit, power switch on/off and impedance selector muting and a temperature detector. This high power design employs a cascaded differential amplifier first stage, push-pull drive, and darlington triple push-pull circuit with all stages direct coupled (OCL). Power output: 250 watts per channel into 8 (stereo) Frequency response: 5Hz to 80kHz Total harmonic distortion: 0.1% Damping factor: 50 Input sensitivity: 2V Signal to noise ratio: 110dB Speaker load impedance: 4 to 8 Semiconductors: 55 x transistors, 75 x diodes.
