DYNACO STEREO 400 Power Amplifier W/ METERS - PRO RESTORED, RECAPPED, LEDs. W/ FAN-1 Whisper Fan ® Upgrade, Original Manual, and Schematics. METER LIGHTS REPLACED WITH LEDs. This absolute unit of a power amplifier is the Dynaco Stereo 400. With 200W per channel in Stereo and 600W in Mono, it is ready to shake the rafters and destroy good relationships with the neighbours. It is the higher-end and more desirable metered version with glowing blue lights that look great in the dark. The fan was also upgraded to Dynaco's FAN-1 Whisper Fan ® for low-noise operation. The unit has been on a long road of repair and restoration over the past six months. When I acquired it, one channel was out so I took it in for repair to a technician with decades of experience at one of the world's leading consumer electronics and audio brands. What I thought would be a simple repair turned out to be extensive, but worthwhile work. A summary of the work done.

Repaired failed power and driver amplifier stage stages. Replaced worn, exhausted axial electrolytic capacitors and some transistors in both channels. Tested and checked bias and idling currents. Receiving the amp back, I installed LEDs in the meter lights to replace the burnt-out originals. When I powered the amp up a few minutes later, the unit sparked and smoked, so back to the shop it went.

For the next six weeks, the amp was gone over with a fine-tooth comb to figure out what happened (FYI, it wasn't my LED job), repair what was damaged, and ensure there were no more small explosions. Outputs and drivers were replaced with modern-spec i. Higher quality and tolerance parts, some resistors were replaced, and I believe some capacitors were also replaced. After the repairs, the amp was tested extensively for about two or three weeks to make sure it is in tip-top shape. Everything is working great now.

Cosmetically, the amp looks great with a couple light scratches to the right of the right-hand meter and what look like teeth marks (tool, not human) on the left-hand fuse tray door. Ultra-sonically cleaned the knobs to bring them to a nice shine. Included is the original instruction manual, schematic, two lists of authorized service centres, and a list of details on and instructions for the FAN-1.

Use high-quality ECT48 double-walled box and lots of packing material (bubble wrap, peanuts, paper, styrofoam). I do not want anything happening to this monster. Power output: 200 watts per channel into 8 (stereo), 600 watts into 8 (mono). Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz. Total harmonic distortion: 0.25%.

Signal to noise ratio: 95dB. Speaker load impedance: 4 to 16. Semiconductors: 46 x transistors, 47 x diodes, 2 x silicon controlled rectifiers, 4 x IC. Dimensions: 17" x 14" x 7.

Unfortunately, there are some not-so-honest people out there that claim additional damage, flaws, etc. For this reason, all items I sell are now as-is.
